Namibia, the Land of Rhino Safaris

-

When you are here, you could just look up and see a large leopard that walks along a long narrow ledge. You might just turn speechless. The leopard sits down and has large soulful eyes that are yellow and shine bright. The leopard usually licks his lips with a black tongue. And the tail is long and unblemished, in fact even longer than his body.

These are nocturnal creatures and many wildlife enthusiasts wait entire lifetimes to get a see something like this.  After you get a good glimpse of what’s happening in the wildlife world over here, apart from the leopards you would get to see many other animals that are quite rare sightings.

You should drive two hours up north and get into the wildlife lovers sanctuary. There are huge canvas tents that are quite spacious. All these are set around a huge boulder that is all over a hill.  This makes for some of the most spectacular Ariel views across the entire savannah.  You could have an Oryx steak for dinner and then provide entertainment for the many baboons that start tumbling right down into the rock face. Almost like extreme adventure sports enthusiast, with wavering arms and limbs, trying to catch onto something for dear life.

If you happen to be driving yourselves into the Namibia desert in something like a saloon car, you would know and be quite surprised that Namibia has the best roads in all of Africa. There aren’t many cars here and the trucks are even lesser.  There is however an open road that cuts right through a landscape that is quite devoid of people.

There are many small towns and many other small places. When you enter Omaruru, which was in fact founded by famous German missionaries. Right-back in the nineteen hundreds; it’s like having some like Alexander smith include you in one of his novels.

The local women are all covered up in sashays and take long walks down the main street while wearing traditional printed cotton crinolines along with hats that are horn-shaped. These people look like extras from Gone with the wind. In fact, there is a woman Called Brenda who gets her fifties tea dead and has big red roses.

As you keep heading into the west of the Namibia desert, there are huge spiky mountains made of black basalt that replace the huge curvaceous granite hills.  It is here that you touch the brakes and head for a rare bend in the gravel road. This would turn out to be a mistake if your car starts skidding, sp be a little careful and drive slowly. Instead of frightening yourself out and getting on a major off-road adventure, before you actually do end up toppling over, it is best to come and halt on the grass. Up to now, there would have been no damage done. You find out that, this could be a beginner’s mistake.
