What to pack for a self drive safari in Uganda

Ranked among the top 10 best destinations to visit in Africa by CNN, Uganda is one of the most thought after destinations to visit in the world. The country as it is nick named the pearl of Africa, it has a lot to offer right from the rear mountain gorillas, primates, big five animal, other wildlife, rich fauna, fresh & salty water bodies, sceneries, and the rich cultures.

There is a lot to do (activities} in Uganda such as mountaineering, biking, horse ride, rafting, game drives, rhino track, mountain gorilla and chimpanzee track, boat cruises and Rafting. Since the country has a lot to offer, this has attracted many tourist and today we want to share with you with things one should pack for their safari in Uganda.

When packing for either guided or self drive road trip in Uganda, below are some of the things that shouldn’t miss in your bag;

A copy of the Brandt Guidebook for Uganda
This book has almost all the information any travel who is planning to visit Uganda needs. This will help you plane your safari wisely since it has information of all interesting destinations to visit in the country. The book will help you know where to stay, how to reach a stain destination, things to do and see, and how many days you will need per destination depending on the distance and things that have to be done.

Yellow fever vaccination card
Visitors on self-drive tour to Uganda should immunize against yellow fever and a yellow fever vaccination card has to be presented for you to get entry permission. It should be signed by your doctor back at your home country recommending and confirm that you are free from yellow fever.

A valid driving license is a must.
The fact that self-drive is more of adventure; you are entirely the manager of your trip. You need a valid driver’s license to embark on a self-drive tour in Uganda.

Anti-Malaria Regiment along with any other medicine you will need.
Most parts of the country are busy making big breeding grounds for mosquitoes. So please keep you self with anti-malaria regiment so as to be away of malaria. For those who have allergies, and other diseases, please endeavor to leave your medicine behind.

Sun Lotion and Sunglasses
Uganda is astride the equator so it receives more than enough sun shine where so parts of the country get worm up to 42 degrees siliceous. So a sun lotion is a must to protect you skin and sun glass for the eyes.

Insect repellent for skin and clothing.
Please if you are interested in visiting any of the game parks in Uganda, please keep yourself with insect repellent to as not to fall a victim to mosquitoes and testes flies.

Imodium – just in case
can treat diarrhea. It can also decrease the amount of drainage in patients with ostomies. Since you visit the country for experience, you will have to text some tropical foods of which they might make you have some diarrhea and then Imodium will be good for you.

Antiseptic hand wipes.
These help you to clean your body in the absence of water.

Binoculars
Binoculars are one of the first things to pack when going on your next Uganda safari. There are plenty of times where you will get close to the animals but in many cases, you won’t. So binoculars are a must. Good safari binoculars definitely enhance your safari experience and allow you to see far animals up close. If you want a good view and not miss the right moments on a safari, it is highly recommended that you bring binoculars.

Camera.
A trip with no camera is never interesting and memorable! Before you set off make sure that you have a good camera packed to allow you take the best photos during your self-drive tour in Uganda. In case you plan to go for gorilla trekking or chimpanzee tracking, you need a good camera with no flashlight. However, visitors whose cameras have flashlight can turn it off prior taking pictures of mountain gorillas or chimpanzees.

Clothing

Depending on your travel needs, when considering which clothes to pack, you need to environmentally friendly attire. If it is mountain gorilla or chimpanzee tracking, you need long sleeved shirts/t-shirt, trousers, hat, sweater and others.

Water and snacks

You need bottled water and snacks to boost your energy since some safari experiences can really be exhilarating for instance a trek to view mountain gorillas, mountaineering in Rwenzori Mountain ranges.
