Its true that Uganda the pearl of Africa is blessed with various natural, cultural, historical manmade, and cultural attractions. Some of these are not found somewhere else in the whole world and provide a great and real experience for all travelers to Uganda. The natural features include the water bodies, mountains, wild life (animals and plants), people, culture, and interesting histories among others. However despite of all the attractions, it has been realized that primate trekking is the best wildlife experience that every traveler to Uganda must experience and includes among others:
Uganda is one of the three countries that are blessed with the rare mountain gorillas along side Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of Congo. Half of the worlds, mountain gorillas are situated in southwestern part of Uganda in the national parks of Bwindi impenetrable forest national park and Mgahinga Gorilla National park. Gorillas are the close relatives to humans just like the chimpanzees and this makes them so susceptible to human diseases. A maximum of eight people are allowed to interact with one gorilla family for a maximum of one hour. A gorilla permit in Uganda is sold at 6oousd, which is quite cheaper as compared to Rwanda. There are 13 habituated gorilla families in Uganda with 13 in Bwindi and 1 in Mgahinga gorilla national park all available for trekking.
Mountain gorilla habituation is done also in Bwindi impenetrable forest national park and this allows the traveler to spend more time with the gorillas as they learn about their behaviors and characters, its is so interesting for real.
There are about 5000 chimpanzees in Uganda. The national park best known for Chimpanzees is Kibale Forest – a rain forest jungle and its sheer beauty is a reason to visit the park. There are 13 kinds of primates found there 1500 chimpanzees call Kibale Forest their home whereas some few are in Kyambura gorge in queen Elizabeth national park. The chimpanzee permit is sold at 150usd and a maximum of eight people is allowed to interact with one chimpanzee family for a maximum of one hour. A distance of 7 meter is encouraged between the travelers and the chimpanzees just like the mounting gorillas to avoid human wild life disease spread.
There is also chimpanzee habituation in Kibale forest national park and the permit is sold at 220 dollars but it is a great and memorable experience for to experience.
Black and White Colobus Monkeys,Baboons, De Brazza’s Monkeys, blue monkeys, Uganda Mangabey Monkey Trekking in Mabira Forest, Lhotse’s Monkeys, Patas Monkey, and Red Colobus Monkeys railed tailed monkeys and many others.
The golden monkey (Cercopithecus mitis kandti) are rare and unique and like its great ape relatives-the mountain gorillas- the golden monkeys can only be found in three countries -Rwanda-Congo- and Uganda in the foothills of the Virunga Volcanoes. They weigh 10 to 25 pounds; have a golden body, cheeks and tails with black limbs, crown on their heads and tail end. These rare species are found in Mgahinga gorilla national park in the bamboo forest in the foothills of the majestic volcanoes where the golden monkeys are found. Spending time with monkeys is the best experience, as they are known to be the most prayerful animals and thus provides travelers with great and memorable experience.
In conclusion therefore, primates in Uganda make ones, trip so interesting. This is because of the unique species that are not found else where in the whole world especially the golden monkeys and the mountain gorillas found in only Uganda, Rwanda and the Democratic republic of Congo.
